-- Amid Darkness, Stars -–

John Herlihy

Dawn haunts

As the day taunts.

Noon crests

In empty bird nests.

Twilight pretends

That the day ends.

Total night arrives

Only darkness survives.

As black as the pupil

In the eye of night.

It lingers without scruple

What happened to light.

There behind bars

Amid darkness, stars.

Even in the darkness of night, there is still starlight to keep us in awe of the universe. Loved the 9th and tenth lines.
