Rainbows and Flowers

Violet – Violets, sweet Violets,
                 that grandma so loved,
             only sixpence a bunch,
                 the flower girl cries;

Indigo – the hue of Lobelia and
                 Delphinium spires,
             the deepening blue of
                 the nearing twilight;

Blue   –  is for Corncockles and
                 Forget-me-nots too,
              Bluebells and Harebells
                 and bright summer skies;

Green –  is for the Shamrock of
                 the Emerald Isle,
              Hostas, grass meadows
                  and foliage bright;

Yellow – is for Buttercups, Daffodils
                  and Sunflowers tall,
              who lift up their heads to 
                  greet sunrise with a smile;

Orange – is for Marigolds and Dandelion
                  strewn banks,
              and the colour of the sun as it
                  sets for the night;

Red   –   is for Roses, and for Tulips
                  of Old Amsterdam,
              and the Poppy’s of Flanders
                  with black button eyes;
