A tribute to those who served

I watched men marc\h in the sunlight today,
In serried ranks, hair so grey’
And I wondered why what ws this for,
Why should we remember war.

I wonderd then what’s it all for,
Why should we remember days of war,
Where men fought and lost their lives,
Left behind them grieving wives.

Mothers, families all neglected,
For the sake of a countries protection,
Fought in lands so far away,
Why did they hurry to join the fray.

Why not ask those who returned,
From the gates of hell, what did they learn,
Was it worth the sacrifice of all those lives,
Just to be heroes in a nations eyes.

A reply came in a voice so plain,
It was not done with thought of fame,
The purpos of our sacriface, so dearly bought,
Was that no more wars shoild be fought.

That peace should reign upon our land
A peace bought dearly on a foreign land
Peace for all for time untold
To have,, to cherish too tightly hold.

So tell your children both young and old.
The triumpj of our stand so bold’
And why we fell and died for them
With the aim of bringimg all wars to an end
