Eras have gone by, new ones arrive but in my silent thoughts, I dream of a day of freedom from the tiny slave monster.

Poem Artwork

No bones, muscles, or tissues.
yet your victims can’t help beating and slapping themselves at the sound of your music. The music from fierce little wings.

No guitars, no pianos nor trumpets
Yet your song and the war cry for the red liquid gold from a single fellow seems from a thousand foot soldiers.
No guns, grenades nor jet fighters
Yet you have brought down valiant men. Both young and old have fallen at the venom of your tiny sting. Smallest of creatures, mightiest of bullies ever known.

No kings, queens nor princes
Yet you rule the, filling up every nook and cranny, dominating the continents in large armies per second, armed to the teeth with only one weapon – the ballistic proboscis.

Patriarchs bow in obeisance to your touch, the song from your wings distress the great prince. Rivers, seas, marshlands. Hills and mountains are not sufficient for your habitation.
We have slain our thousands, but you have slain your tens of thousands. We have taken over territories, we have plundered lands, with kings and mighty warriors. But your kingdom and territory which has no king remains impregnable.

Every door closes in precaution of your awful presence, the fear of you makes mother cage their children in nets. Fathers are held hostage in nets because the fear of the gnat has been the beginning of wisdom.

Touch and resilient you are, that no weapon fashioned against you has prospered. I look forward to the day of your annihilation. The day of everlasting victory over the death and pain from your lips, and the disdain from your wings.
On the day you surrender your weapons, your lethal proboscis and invisible bacteria, I will celebrate and be drunk. Oh what a dream I don’t see coming true . An event that would only take place after the fowl must have grown teeth, the snail grows horns and the lizard becomes a crocodile due to overfeeding.

Oh gnat, tiny but mighty
How I dread thee well
No air force or naval bases
Your air and water dominance is yet to be challenged.
My only hope of your extinction is the end of the world.
I hail thee.

Yes the mosquito… scourge of mankind. Sometimes, the cure, DDT, is worse than the disease.

The only way to effectively stop the death toll from mosquito borne disease is to immunize with vaccines against the various diseases that mosquitoes carry. Mosquitoes are essential food for many insects, birds, fish and amphibians. Needed for the natural food cycle. To kill them is to kill ourselves.

Gnats, on the other hand are another dangerous nuisance that we must learn to live with, as well. It is best to take the Buddhist point of view when dealing with nature.

I'm in fear of this slave monster, even though I'm not sure what it is. Can it be a mosquito or fly carrying disease? If so, then their wings do bring me distress and their stingers immense pain.
