Finding the Self

To lose the self, is to lose the self...

Finding the Self…

That seems to be what therapists want,

But was the self ever lost, did you look into the mirror?

And ask yourself, “self, where did my self go?”

Is he hiding in there, in the dark recesses of my mind?

Or did he run away, hiding in a toenail, at the opposite end…

Lost is the self, is the self the “id” or is it just the inside kid?

How does one lose the self, does it just up and vacate the body?

So that all you are left with is a frame, with no interior,

That would be quite, if you think about it, inferior…

I hope I do never lose my self,

Nor would I want to meet anyone that has done so,

Even if it only went to live down below,

Somewhere maybe near or in my big toe,

Cause if it lived down there, I would have to walk real slow,

For to lose it further, would cause me so much woe…

Perhaps it's all about not ACCEPTING our entire self that suggests that we've somehow 'lost' some of it... All I know is that we are, each of us, fully in charge of our own, personal, respective SELF! 'Tis true. It doesn't wander off, we just sometimes misplace it... as with the heart, the self needs to be embraced and cherished.

See what happens when you get philosophical on me, Eddie M? I get that way too! (grin) This is a marvelous 'self' write. katy xox.

love the topic and your playing off the idea of losing one's self. just one question: what's the deal with the toe / toenail theme here? :)... Dawn

Is your name Ed or Id? If you lose yourself, be a good idea to ask a policeman to take you home..
