Holiday Fear

Ain’t no cheer,

No where near here,

For some reason the holidays

Bring on in me some level of fear…

What memories do lurk,

In the dark recesses of my mind,

Those that may represent my holiday season berserk,

Or is it just something from within, like a quirk…?

Not even therapy can alleviate this emotion,

Not even speaking to the gods of the Atlantic ocean,

Nothing seems able to adequately relieve this feeling of dread,

Wonder if I will lose it even when that day comes for me to be dead…?

Hey, the radio stations around here start the Christmas music right after Halloween these days, so I get scared a little earlier every year. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Many people fear the holidays. Many go through depressions. Often not knowing why. I suspect its because we have lost the root of all the holidays. forget it is a holiday........and just enjoy the day :-)

Analytic people sometimes THINK too much but neither of us fit that catagory. I simply SHUT DOWN a LOT from Thanksgiving till Christmas--the fake smiles, Happy Holiday greetings, etc. turn me OFF. Sorry, but I wish every day people reacted humanely and with genuine concern.
My problem isn't FEAR (and it doesn't sound like yours is either, dear); it's burn-out! Thought-provoking poem though :)!
