This is, unfortunately, a true account of last nights drive home...

Poem Artwork

Twas a dark night last,

My perfect driving record changed in an instant,

The cop was not listening to the fact,

That I had no tickets or accidents in 19 years,

Said did he that I was driving on a rural road,

Way too damn fast…

He did not want to hear my whining,

All he wanted to do to me was fining,

For my dear old ticket free license I am pining,

From happy to depressed I am fast declining…

All one can do is laugh at this situation,

Do not allow myself into the pits of frustration,

I should have gone the way I usually do to my destination,

Oh what the hell, so I broke a local regulation,

Hey, wait a minute, could this be of my mind all an aberration…?

Ed, next time carry an onion in your glove compartment. When the officer asks for registration and insurance, that's your opportunity to bite a huge hunk outta that white tomato. Then pretend to breathe heavy from nervousness so he can get a full snootful of oniony goodness.

Yaa, us crips, we no good at w[h]inning. Crime just does not pay. In my case, officer Carter agreed that my brakes didn't work [no skid marks]. On the other hand, is suicide on the back of an Expedition a crime? ;-)

That was tough shucks, Ed.

Maybe the cop just wanted to try out his new pen, did you ever think of that, Ed? The fact that you are depressed about it shows you got a good spirit - fat lot of good that sounds. But listen, Harpo knocked a guy out and tried to recover him with salts. Groucho says, 'You're sorry for what you done?' Harpo nods silently. Groucho then says, 'Shows you got a good spirit.' Then as the guy recovers, Harpo thumps him on the head again. So you see Ed, the moral of the story is, well what is the damn moral..?

Go to court and the judge will note your driving record and, more than likely, decrease yout fine or throw it out entirely.
