Good Mothers are sometimes hard to find…

She was as good as she knew how...

I read of families that have great mothers,

I belonged to one that didn’t, so one of the others,

I mean when I was quite young my mom was the best,

But as I grew my love for her seemed to wane,

And our closeness got to be less and less…

Not that she was the devil,

Though closer to Satan she was than God,

She gave me everything I asked for,

Though now I know that was the wrong thing to do,

She seemed to feel that love was reflected by material things given,

So first I was in my town to have a bedroom TV & stereo,

Then I thought, oh boy, now this is really liven…

I have to look at it though,

That she worked with what she had,

She didn’t know any better,

She didn’t know she might be doing bad,

Because of her, my dad was always a debtor,

And I think now, I would have enjoyed from her a homemade sweater…

I have No Idea what my own mother thought she was on about..sadly she still thinks that there was nothing particulary wrong with what she was on about...
And that is that!!
However, I didn't want to follow in her footsteps, and must of done something right..If yesterday was any indication!
We all get a choice, and you either chose to do right by your kids, or you chose to be a hapless BLOODY abuser ( pardon strong language) there is NO excuse for the latter here, NONE!
Just the way I feel about it, can certainly understand your feelings ED...Too often stuff is lavished on kids, coz love is not something some parents are capable of giving, in a nutshell some choose to buy their kids off!

i experience a tough childhood-due mostly to my mother's choices--i have, however, learned to love those gifts that she did give and forgive the rest

Would that they could all be perfect. I read somewhere that imperfect parents are a gift to us. We spend the of our lives undoing the damage they caused, and therefore grow into healthy adults by our own hard work. I'm not sure I believe that but have learned to accept my mother as she is. She never grew at all and remains a little frightened girl of about 12. Sad, but that's how it is.

I think we all have some regrets, Bro, and as we get older we often realize that our parents did the best they could.

PS Pls explain to Jasmin why your brother Pee Wee turned out so good!

PPS Mean Tall Woman says she's gonna knit you a sweater - extra large!

Hi Ed, there is no manual for parents when they have children and have to do the best with what they have and what they know... it's true for too many...

good one Ed, I hope you get that sweater, maybe not from your mom but from someone who can knit. My mom was a good holy woman, a little too holy for me. Spoiled boys to death, of course I escaped her touch but those who didn't are men trying to learn how to work and get off drugs, have a good mothers day

At least you got something to show for, all we got was beatings.

I was one of the lucky ones for although I only had my mother and father for the first twenty five years of my life they were the really great parents. The stay at home cook all the meals, bake bread, make clothes, and make sure we went to church on sunday. I wouldn't have traded them for the world.
