My one & only foray into motorcycle riding...

Sorry not a poem in classic sense, just something I wrote one early morning after awaking from a particularly vivid dream...

Poem Artwork

Rode my dads 59'(?) softtail once & only once as it got totally destroyed in an over the cliff ballet with me at its helm...I held on for dear life, hoping to keep it in one piece, fat chance, ripped from my hands, almost taking me with it to its final demise & permanent resting place in a very large & deep river in western Pennsylvania...okay, so it was snowing & I was doing about a hundred, but hey I had to wring her out...and then there was this cop that was chasing me...but thats another story...dad never let me forget that, & every time I looked at another bike, even one that I could have pedaled, he looked the other way & growled…

Since that fateful day, my riding has been of the pedaled variety, and never any faster than a few miles per hour, after all I have not gotten this old by being reckless…

I had a wimpy Honda 350. It would a hundred if you really pushed it. Oddly by coincidence I too dumped it on snowy day when the throttle froze in the wide open position. Never rode in the snow again. Patrick

My adventure was years ago, as an adult, with children.

Going down a steep hill in the woods - too fast got scared - squeezed WRONG brake ... went 'arse over tin-cups' into briar bushes ... and that was only a mini-Bike ...

Haven't driven one since ... cuz ...

only in vivid dreams!!!

Good one, Ed. Glad you survived. When I was in high school, I wanted my parents to sign so I could buy a motorcycle. They refused and I never thanked them.

Haha! My experience with a motorcycle was way back when the Indian was still popular. I was going to learn haw to ride it and instead of going straight I laid it on its side with my leg underneath it and the throttle wide open. That did it. Scared me so bad I never went back for another try.

Hope that cold shower helped you . . .
