Mom's...

A negative Mothers day write,
If you don't like it, you have the right...

We all have at least one,
Many don’t have even that,
Most are most loving,
Caregivers to an extreme extent…

Some mom’s are real bitches though,
They hinder their children to grow,
As they never did themselves get to do so,
As with my mom I guess I must someday repent…

My mom was great when I was young,
Then as I got older and watched her deteriorate,
Addicted she was to prescription drugs,
“Trying” to commit suicide instead of giving hugs…

Her biggest attempt was when I was about twenty one,
Into the ocean she walked & tried to of herself drown,
Found in five feet of water floating face down,
Still she lived, the cold water kept her alive,
For me I wished she would have it done…

For years afterwards she was permanently disabled,
Never was she before or after mentally stable,
So this is the reason I dread others speaking well,
Of the mothers they knew as living with mine was hell…

Still I have not gotten past the way she got to be,
Unfortunately my karma may suffer permanent damage,
But I just can’t seem to come to with her, terms,
Gone she has been for thirteen years,
And still around this “holiday” memory of her burns.

It is not a perfect world, that is for sure, Ed. I think most moms are treasures but I have witnessed a few that do not fit that premise. Love and peace,

Regis

Very passionate and honest writing. How hard it is to tell the hard story that made us - a story that once you tell it, it stays in the mind forever. But, even if you don't feel like you've soiled (your pants) you've accomplished a freedom from a madness that could have destroyed your peace. Perhaps, you can have it now someway other than the ways you've tried before. I'm sure, in her mind and soul, there were times she wanted so much more in life and wished strongly for something different than what she was given. I do hope you can find or have found peace, Ed.

I am sorry to hear that anyone would feel that they should not honor their mom every day of the year. I used to feel this way about Father's Day because I was abused by my dad physically and verbally and he told me countless times I would never amount to anything. My mother actually told me Not to Listen to him. Therefore my mother made me who I am today. Later in life I became a follower of Jesus Christ. So now I have a Father in Heaven. I have forgiven my dad for the pain he caused me growing up. So now I am free from the bondage of my past. Why would I not wish this for all of my friends on the den? God bless you Ed. Amen.

ED, Sorry about your mother...but you wrote about her and getting it out in the open should help you to let it go...

Always,
Deborah

A lot of pain disappears with these words: "I forgive you," and "I love you."

This had to be painful to write, I hope it was at least a little cathartic for you as well.

Moms are not all made the same. As their offspring are, as well.

I was fortunate to have a young, beautiful mom who was both open and caring. But she taught me discipline as probably her best trait. I will not call her today 1100 miles away. For she can no longer hear the phone ring and insists on calling me at 4 PM on Mondays. So I will discipline myself to wait until tomorrow and then wish her the best of mothers' days and tell her that I love her. Something that I never had to say until recently because it was always simply understood.

I live in the Middle East where they don't celebrate Mother's Day as they do in the US. As you have well pointed out in this poem, not all mother's are the same. John

Ed, I am happy I read this before going to bed. My mother wasn't an addict. She was just mean. I will not go on an on about her, except to say, I am very happy I read this before going to bed. Misery loves company don't ya know?
