Residing in the Darkness

I have no idea where this popped into my head from...perhaps from the darkness it spawned...

RESIDING IN THE DARKNESS…

Deep down, in the nether regions of the darkened caves of pain,

Lives the dragon of torture,

His breath of fire the only heat in this cold empty hole in the self,

He is there to keep away the light,

The light of being right…

For to be right, would close that empty hole,

Nothing but that of a mole,

Could find its way down using its soles,

To dig through and re-expose,

That dragon of the darkest torture.

If the dragon were to see the light,

For him it would cause his skin to develop blight,

It would seethe and boil and melt off,

Leaving behind a bony structure not unlike,

That of a steel building of great height.

That would be for this dragon,

A very fearful experience,

As he has never been in the light,

His eyes adjusted for the dark,

He has his own inner warmth,

From the fires that burn within.

Is this my soul, I ask?

Is this where my “id” resides?

Or is this the dark part of me?

The part I keep hidden,

Never to be seen nor heard from,

The part of me that scares even me, its master…
