This Sadistic Time

Grief.

This sadistic time
Unwashed pillow
Forgotten the tears
Have dried

Yet an emptiness
A loss of hope
A game of monstrosity
Dealt to the least deserving

Good hearts mourn
The best always die young
Unknown future
Never played out

Silence the only response
Recognition of harm
No change

Psycho killers
With armor piercing bullets
Impregnable castle of death
The moat wide and deep
Dark creatures lurk
In brackish waters

Children and babies
Crawling
Yet the birds sing
On barbed wire

Ironing the folds of justice
So unbalanced
Deliver us from evil

Tongue parched
Bleached the cow skull
Of serenity

Peeling back that pinhole
Camera obscura
Upside down
Reflection

Dark and forbidding poem. But it's always been so. The transgressions of the past, like cannibalism and human sacrifice, were much greater, but mostly hidden from our view. The reason we're seeing so much today is because of the Internet and everyone having cameras to focus on tragedies in a way we've never seen before.
