As freedom of expression is lost in the East, it is threatened in the West.

Poem Artwork

In Russia
The FSB is really the KGB.
Political opponents, independent press,
Protestors disappear, radiation poison
Assassinations are common.
Oranges are scarce.

Even post-USSR,
Sanctions become rationing,
Despite money for territory takeovers.
Crimea, Ukraine, is Estonia next?
Or Poland?

Vladimir Putin
Sits on a throne of self-importance.
Now sees the president of the world
Across the sea
And determines to split it,
Divide West Kingdom and East Fiefdom.
We are slaves to master oligarchs and
Of plutocrat yes-men.

Ripping resources out from under the serfs,
The wealth siphoned to the top of the pyramid,
As we the 99% watch powerless
As Trump follows a strong man
In whom he sees himself, only more subtly
And less subtly.
But soon, he will invade and capture too.

One keeping out and the other conquesting beyond,
Mere lines on a map.
For it is all theirs,
Though the people die starving
Or without healthcare.
But who cares?
They and their friends are lords.

They torture and say it works
Because they like to torture
To keep their power
Hidden in plain view.

What have we become?
What are we becoming?

We will rise up.
We will die or face imprisonment.
And we will not go quietly.
Then one day our deaths will be too many,
Our numbers too great.
They will cry for followers,
But hear only silence,
No one left to abuse.

more than 80 years the world does not know the WWIII. why? Firstly, because of the modern weapon fatal power and secondly because tycoons and oligarchs do not want to lose what they have already built up and gained -- what they possess is huge, a really huge piece of the world's economy pie. It seems to be the main factor of the so-called global peace. Now, V.Putin is the most popular man in the western world (Forbes) to say nothing of the rating in Russia. The global balance of forces? Definitely. It's all about the scope. What we know about Russia is our media product; what people in Russia know about us is their media product. To have an objective picture -- we cannot afford it today. it's too late; we're fully controlled, each of us. FSB or KGB or CIA or M-5, 6, 7. . . or FB or Tweeter they are all about one and only purpose -- the global balance of forces; all the rest is too traditional flaws of this world with its tons of tragedies at the end of the day. Cheers, alex

I only Russia were an enigma, a script played out as a super-colossal binge movie. But, as you say, it remains real and generating more fear than ever. You've defined so many facts in poetry form that one wonders if such writing would reach more people were they not stuck in media sound bites and headlines. Very well done.

Someone wrote me recently, "I don't do political poetry." That is strange coming from a creative person like you and I. From your poem I see your creativity reaching its fullness with your exposé of the real difference/similarity between fascism and communism, both branches of the oligarchs of this world as a means for controlling masses. The more fear you can engender, the more easily they are to control.

Well done. More people need to know.

Ron

I love clarity of expression, in prose or poetry. There are also moments that demand clarity. This is such a moment. You are the speaker and the writer, the doer and the thinker. Your voice is firm. Your words are powerful. They inspire. You bring clarity where oppressors prefer chaos. In the words of a mutual friend "Dream about tomorrow; live for today." Well, done, Danae.
