Sitting at my desk,
reading a bloody set-text
that would bore the pants off anyone,
my daughter's IPod music wafts over me
through the computer's speakers...
To my surprise, a Beatles' anthology -
from Love Me Do
to Lady Madonna.
I am undone!
If this be the food of love, play on!
Glorious in its simplicity;
lucid in its emotional intelligence -
I was blind, but now I see!
Was dead, but now am alive!
Like the Bible and the Nine O'Clock News,
it has always "been there" -
part of life's rich pageant;
but I swear I have been DULL!
I can feel the combinations
of my psyche's lock
fall into place: C-L-I-C-K!
I am free and suddenly things have
Come Together...
I salute you, Paul and Ringo,
George and John - may you RIP.
You rock and
Roll over, My Soul!
I am tempted to say:
Hey, Jude!
- but I fear I shall be misread...
Rock on, Kate! I was deaf but now I hear, blind but now I see. The Beatles are the band for sheer infectious bubbly feel-good rock.
The intro to I want to hold your hand just sends me bananas.
And Strawberry Fields, ooh: no one I think is in my tree/I mean it must be high or low.... shades of Cosimo, darlin' The beat goes on! k
That music is like a beacon to me...if I am feeling moody or blue (gee that almost sounds like the name of another great group) I can just put on the White Album and soon I am singing happily through my day. Nice job, Kate.
Take care,
Sherry

Fantastic! An epiphany, always an unexpected bullseye between the eyes, painless, perfect and profound... much like your poem, m'dear.
The Beatles were my lover, my bridge from adolescence to (I use the term loosely, here) adulthood. (smile) But this is not simply a discovery of the singing group, it is a bonafide journey to your inner self... and it's very, very fine! katy xox.
don't you just love those spontaneous, devil may care moments? rock on, girl! love the excitement and fun in this write--keep writing and singing :)
(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)

Oh glory be, Katie! I absolutely LOVE the Beatles...especially Ringo.
The older he gets, the handsomer he gets. My favorite song is
"Paperbackwriter" (Naturally, as that is what I use for my tag).
And I loved your poem here, girl. You just keep them rolling off the
top of that pretty little head, and I'll keep on enjoying the reads.
Imagine, if you will laying naked in strawberry fields forever....oooops....sorry, kinda got caught in the moment....loved this Kate...both my wife and I are Beatle fans. Splendid job here.
Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!
I find the Beatles so inspirational, not only for the merit of their work, but for the trip they take me down memory lane......the emotions and flashbacks of mini "me"
Kate, this poem put a smile on my face on this dark, dreary, rainy Monday. "Like the Bible and the Nine O'Clock News." Great line! I saw the Beatles the first time they were on TV in America. The Ed Sullivan show. Every girl in the entire dorm was packed into a small TV room and we screamed like crazy.

LOL I love this and "Hey Jude" is a great song and line! I've always been a Beatles fan and some of their later works sail me away just like classical music.
Was dead, but now am alive!
So very glad to thear this, Kate!
The intro to I want to hold your hand just sends me bananas.
And Strawberry Fields, ooh: no one I think is in my tree/I mean it must be high or low.... shades of Cosimo, darlin' The beat goes on! k
