Saddam Hussein likes to play the fool turning his trial into a farce lawyers dismissed and judges changed it could only happen in Iraq a pantomine if it wasn't so serious we should remember this man is a beast responsible for millions of deaths a mass murderer of heinous design he and his henchmen, perpetrators of genocide innocent Kurds gassed by the thousands oppression and violence the order of the day aided and abetted by his cruel sons instigator of wars, and initiator of invasions peaceful countries felt his evil wrath democracy destroyed, replaced by tyranny freedom of speech suppressed by force scud missiles fired on neighbouring Israel he was quite prepared to start Armageddon two desert storms later we have foiled his plans and brought justice and equity to that God forsaken land our soldiers showed valour and gave the greatest sacrifice the enemy were vanquished on their own soil the deterrent to terrorism and extremism so we can sleep with peace and safety at night knowing our implacable foes are on the run so let us pray, that justice prevails and Saddam and his wicked cohorts receive their just desserts from the hand of the Almighty
They should put him in a glass cage as they did Hitler's regime at the Nuremburg Trials, where they could only be heard if asked a direct question. Definitely, low class, no class...and crass.

I would have to agree with Carolyn, Peter - his crimes were committed before the last Gulf War - when we let him go - and we used to support him with arms and technology before that. Why was justice so long in coming? World Politics makes very strange bedfellows, indeed.
Iraq is a tragedy of monumental proportions, Peter. Your well-penned piece makes one wonder WHY the United States put the likes of Hussain in power in the first place, and then went on supporting him long after his cruel excesses were clear to everyone... But then, the US has utilized this misguided tactic of puppet politics elsewhere, and many times over-- the Chilean people are STILL seeking justice for all of Pinochet's brutal transgressions...
