He died and went to heaven
like many soldiers do
With a gun in his hand His face in the sand
A wife back home with a kid starting school
His country called on him to serve
Far away in a foreign land
to pave the road to freedom
at a cost some folks don't understand
In this world there is much hatred
for the rights we hold so dear
Blackened souls and evil minds
fill the world with fear
There are even those among us
without consequence or shame
Immersed in their delusions
they preach America’s to blame
But this soldier loved his country
He loved his family and his friends
With courage in his heart he fought and died
for all he'd sworn to defend
He was kind and he was proud
It'll be hard to fill his shoes
He gave his life for you and me
and those without the right to choose
He's another unsung hero
Someone you should've known
Now its Christmas-time
But our hero…
Well, he won't be coming home

As many of these as I've written myself, I just can't manage to read one without the grateful tears they bring.
