There is nothing as forlorn sounding as a bell buoy in the fog...it is like this sense of isolation and lonliness sweeps over you and captures the sadness of the soul...

Poem Artwork

Adrift

By: Fee

I hear a Bell buoy ring out like a mantra

As the Old Hag Fog horn cries in the bay

The Forchu lighthouse keeps gazing about

Searching it seems for love gone astray

The rain drips teardrops on the glass pane

As outside the world hides itself in the fog

I still hear you say you’ll always love me

Etched in my heart like in a sea captain’s log

They say new tide will bring in tomorrow

Returning waves visit, that have tasted away

I sit alone just contemplating my window

And what caused your sweet love to stray

I’ ll light the lantern once more in my window

‘Tis a beacon to prove this old sailor still cares

Aye, and I’ll climb up that creaking old stairway

So my pillow can swallow my tears…

They say that when you hear bell-buoys sound...there are sailors telling you that they are still here and like the Flying Dutchman trying to find their way to the beyond seas.
Fee, the only thing you will ever miss is that talking bird on your shoulder!

Oh how I can hear the lonely sound of the bell buoy as it sits alone bobbing. Such a forlorn sound that always seems to reach down deep into one's soul....

Be always safe,

..such sadness felt as I read this..but the fog will lift. This tugs at the heart, but at the same time hopefulness shines with a lantern's reflecton into the night.

Soooooooo evocative, Felix. You have a real gift for heart-wringing poetics that, though bathed in often soulful pain, are never cloying or fake in the integrity of feeling they express. Together with always-piercing sentiment, you also have great discernment in which images to use as vehicles to convey your thoughts. The bell-bouy is brilliant, especially in fog, and ESPECIALLY when set against the backdrop of the lamp in the window. The effect of this is full of impact. Wonderful to see you again, Pops. I loved your Pearl poems and shared your sense of her angelic transformation as she passed. Now her glow is felt, warm and pure, in another world. Be well, me darlin. Stay strong. xx
