Once I put a comma,
Whenever I stopped to think
Or rest my hand, or look about
Or get myself a drink.
The commas soon proliferated
All about the page
Oh it was raining commas
They held the centre stage.
A comma though, my writing friends,
Has a special task
It separates the words in lists,
For "and" it is a mask.
The humble comma also
Divides a phrase or clause
From the main bit of the sentence
(Do I hear applause?)

The thing I am learning that brings complication into the use of comma's is different countries have different rules about it. Makes it hard to know when to use it when you grow in a country that loves to use comma's and a land where the people do talk with excitment, which is probably why I use to many....!!! Although as far a the !!! go I am told I over use them :-) Interesting series you have put up.

i dont know about my commas i new at this. But you have made another excellent point
Homer's Ill Iliad & Odd Sea Odyssey (420 pages) is an adult satire/parody rewrite of the classic stories of the 10 year Trojan War and of the 10 year adventure of Odysseus trying to return home to his native Ithaca.

So everyone, if you're writing poetry without line breaks, be sure to use comma where you want the reader to pause for a break.
