I google everything before I go out shopping and call and have them hold it till I get there. I go in and get it and try to leave before buying something I won't use..hahaha

I like our dirty Santa parties because I can get rid of the gifts that were someone else's.
This definitely has a new meaning for ...the gift that keeps on giving..

I was in Macy's yesterday and I was surprised that there was not even Christmas music to enhance the shopping experience! I love the small shops, boutiques, speciality stores and have done the majority of my shopping there for decades. The atmosphere is more relaxed, friendly and people actually smile at you, welcoming you to their shops... and if you frequent their stores, some greet you by name!

To me Christmas is all about family, friends, gathering together for a special meal to enjoy the people you most like to spend time with. Giving well chosen gifts to friends and family and especially the wonderful grandchildren we are blessed with warms my heart. Looking at their faces as they open their gifts brings total satisfaction to the day. Combined with church activities, memories are made that will live in our hearts and minds for years to come, Yes, John, there is so much more to Christmas than shopping at a mall.

This time of year shopping malls are among the most depressing places around.

I couldn't agree more - I miss the simple Holidays of Yore.

Dear Ron,

I thought I made it clear that LOVE (specifically the love of God) is above all. However, I cannot imagine Christmas without presents and family gatherings. Well, however you spend this Christmas time may it be the BEST time of all.

Christmas carols in malls reminds me of elevator Muzak. Let's face it, Christmas shopping has nothing to do with celebration or even Christmas. It's all about the religion of the almighty dollar. We are a consumer society, poor in values and rich in materialistic things that we hold onto as though they are some intrinsic part of us. The fact is that all this frenetic shopping does little or nothing to make the world a better place but only adds to our misery of debt and dependence on major corporations for our very existence.



The best gift we can give is our help and our assurance and love. Money is the easy way out that only leads to depression and another round of spending. Hence, the need for fully flea markets and yard sales.

The most important event in my children's , grandchildren's and my Christmas is a birthday cake for Jesus. We share small gifts in remembrance of God's gift to us. You are right about the malls!
