Oh the grandeur of growing things,
the perfume of blooming,
the melody,
myriad birds on wings...
In the long lazy days of
a scheduled release from duty
I am re-charged by the music
and full bloom beauty
of Summer.
I savor the glory of Autumn,
maturity, abundance,
deeper color,
everything cresting in
final performance,
every horizon fiery--
before the fading
and slipping into the
musty book of all
that's been.
I empathize with paralyzed
Winter, clinging to
her icicle;
how bravely she exhibits
her silvery splendor,
knowing that any minute her
January glamour
will liquify and disappear
into Spring.
I worry about naive Spring...
budding innocence learning
through games of chance,
new green precariously perched
on kite strings, pale pink
blossoms exposed to the wolves
--and spring never knows
when God will rescind her
for Summer.
Autumn is my favorite season. I savor it too...
