When I was just a lad and the whole world seemed so exciting
I spent hours at a time visiting places I found to be inviting
Not far from my boyhood home was a state park in the mountains
A place with green trees, water streams, lakes and fountains
A state park of Maryland known to us as Cunningham Falls
Where deer and other wildlife roamed and you could hear the many types of bird call
I would sit for hours and listen to the sound of the waterfalls
Looking up through the trees I could watch the clouds as they floated by
Sometimes they would block the rays of the sun shining in a placid blue sky
The water flowing over the falls sang a song, a beautiful lullaby
The breeze that rustled through the trees seemed to whistle and sigh
The stones at the bottom of the falls were polished and the water was clear and shallow
I can remember the water being so pure I had no reason not to take a swallow
Oh, if only I could still see the world through the eyes of a boy
I would see a wonderland of delight, elation and joy
