Ever had one of these days?

Sad Time

Somewhere over the rainbow

Life left me behind

Staring blindly into space

My mind took leave again for sometime

I really don’t miss it that much

Who really wants to think?

I just go through the days with an empty head

The only sign I’m there is that I blink

So, I’ll just sit here quietly

Waiting for mental clarity?

With one last thing to say

For the rest of this mindless stay

Blink…

I've actually had days I felt just this way! I hope they don't last long for your when they come Elizabeth. A very real and honest pen.

Elizabeth, I know this feeling all too well. And maybe the person that came to my mind, in reading your poem, will lift your spirits.

This poem made me think of Jean-Dominique Bauby. In 1995 he had a brainstem stroke, which rendered him nearly completely paralyzed except for his eyes, he was able to blink.

After a few months, people realized he was aware, but locked into an immobile body. With his ability to blink he wrote the book, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" one letter at a time, blinking when his assitant named the correct letter.

As a former nurse, I think you may have seen some horribly debilitating events in your life. I know it doesn't make life easier though to know there are worse things in life. But...

I'm not sure I even blink these days. Hold a mirror under my nose from time to time like an old hound dog. Just to make sure the air is still moving in and out even tho the eyelids have frozen open. now your poem has opened a real can of worms! Loved it!

Be your wonderful you.
You sound like one of those few I choose to be a good mate, as they are hard to come by...

We have all known such days. It can be minutes, hours, sometimes weeks...

It needs some good sense of humor to find the strength again.

Thank you for sharing!

Elizabeth,I know of no one else that can "blink" with such eloquence!
Your head cannot possibly be empty, ever. Not with so much creativity percolating in it!

By the way, I believe that "mental clarity" is likely over-rated...not that I've ever had any personal experience with mental clarity...(I'm still waiting for it too) :o)

I'm so glad I stopped by tonight and found your new poem!

This is sad in its self. I have these sort of days, I believe it's called "Over Load." I loved how descriptive you were. Thanks for sharing.

Sad times, sometimes I don't even think I blink. Sadness can be overpowering and incapacitating. The mental 'vacation' does help.
