I sweated a lot over this work. I hope you find it informative. It is written tongue in cheek...

My Memoir

Around July 1979, I gave birth to identical twin girls. I didn’t know what to do. They had me trained in no time. They still let me pretend I’m the one in charge.

Around June 1974, I bought my first car – a brand new blue Chevy Nova. I then learned what OPEC and an oil embargo meant. Higher gas problems. I’m sure that it was an oversight on OPECs part that they didn’t invite me to join when they formed in 1960. If they had let me join, gas would still be 19 cents a gallon today. They needed my help. And after all they let me be a Girl Scout Brownie at that time.

Around April 2008, someone killed Simon, my beagle. It made me sad and mad. I cried a lot and posted “Into the Night” on AD. The poem depressed everyone who read it too.

Around March 1953, I was born. I didn’t know what to do, so I was put in charge immediately.

Around April, 1967, I was thrown out of freshman Spanish class for laughing. I don’t know what was wrong with them. I thought it was good because they were sending us home at 10:00 a.m. So what if there was rioting in the streets of downtown Kansas City, Mo. My first experience under martial law. I didn’t think my laughing would cause all of that.

Around April 2007, my first and so far only grandchild was born. She’s one now and still lets me pretend I’m the one in charge.

Around November 2004, George W. Bush was re-elected as president. I still don’t understand why I’m the only one who has to take medication for being crazy.

Around February 1993, I woke up to find myself in a locked down psychiatric unit. It was my first psychiatric admission and a new challenge. I was in charge there to.

Around November 1986, I realized I was afraid of the dark. I still sleep with a night light. It was awful that my mother took my security blanket away in 1957. So what if it was in tatters.

Around May 2008, I awoke to find the world was all screwed up. I must have been asleep for a long time. Now that I’m back in charge, I will be busy straightening out the world. So, this will conclude my life story. Oh by the way, I think I remember being married once. I guess I will have to tell about that at a later date. Oh well.

A combined "comedy of errors" and "tragedy of life" that couldn't have been portrayed better! Well done, girl...and methinks you've always been in charge :o)

A good life, I too was in a phyc ward for 8 years, then married my hubby. We had a wonderful life for 17 years, then he passed away on Aug 17 2007, leaving me behind. Boy is it hard to stay sane now. My 1st husband put me in a mental hosp and the second one got me out Now noone and am in grieving, but reading your reflections help to see others go through a lot also.-

You know I love your sense of humor, Liz! I also know you've had a very bumpy road so far. I'm so sorry about your beagle:( How horrible to lose your dog that way. I lost my dog in Feb. 2008, and I'm still hurting.

Your strength comes through beautifully! I love the parts when you say that you were in charge - especially in the ward. Great job on this write. I hope things improve from this point on. You were blessed with twins - definitely a bright side, though it must have been hard. Stay strong! Thank you for sharing this! Love and Hugs,
Sheila

Such strength, such a wonderful sense of humor. I love it.
No, it hasn't been an easy life, but it seems that you also had many moments of joy.
You have a lovely voice Liz.

Sounds like a rather interesting life so far! My mother is a twin, my mother's twin sister had twins so bet you had double the pleasure, right? Yes, I remember sitting at 4 a.m. on a gas line (odd - even plates) with one baby in a car seat and the other in a car bed only to find the pumps were still closed. Then to duck down as gun fire ensued because someone was trying to cut in line, while the gas truck was trying to pull in and the driver was beaten up from the angry crowd.

Worse years 1967 - 1968, really was convinced that our government was going to be overthrown in between the riots and shoot-outs everywhere. And yes I was at Woodstock, the best party I have ever been too yet! To date I have five grandchildren, four boys, one girl and one is even left handed like me, WOW! Have a nephew who is also left handed, but for a very long time I was the only one. Tough being left handed in a right handed world, he, he! One very fantastic write my friend. Stay strong as you are always....

Be always safe,
Karen

Enjoyed your memoirs and it seems we walked a parallel road through this world a lot including the lock down in the physh ward. We can only look back though with smiles and laughter at where we been and where it took us.
