Studies show that insectivores numbers have fallen in recent years by as much as 40% in many areas of the U.S. and Canada.

Evenings gone by, dusk of summer,

Song of Whip-Poor-Will mating quest,

Quavering, fades to bare murmur,

Falling echoes of love’s trill-fest.

 

Now we try for evening screenings 

In warmth of summer stillness,

List' to woodland's dusky gleanings ---

Only echoes of Whip-Poor-Willness.
