                                   Early morning......

Early morning and all is quiet,
no squirrels, rabbits, not even birds.
Trees are all still, deer in the glen,
cows in pasture sitting in herds.

Morning dew gently blankets the ground,
see through mist hovers over the lake.
Frogs have gone home, nightly music silent,
day creatures now have a chance to partake.

A need to take care, share with everyone,
mysteries of nature a wondrous gift to all.
Internal clock ticking, animals waking up,
a feast for creatures large and small.

Birds above flying, coming in for a drink,
then into the trees for safety and cover.
Squirrels and rabbits begin their routine,
daily ritual they repeat over and over.

Each day is different, yet remains the same,
scurrying for food, to survive another day.
Much in common with animals we have,
doing our best to survive in our own way.

We eat, drink, build our shelters,
protect our families, bring them provisions.
        Teaching survival, passing on skills,
hoping one day they will make
                          right decisions.

Sitting at this lake observing nature,
realizing how fragile the minutest life can be.
The sights, smells, sounds that I hear,
rests in the hands of all, do you not see.

Karen, in Early Morning you repeat a common theme of much of your work: God's creations going about their daily tasks--a tree unfurling a leaf or a bird plucking a twig for its nest. In it all, you offer us observations that in busy lives we oftentimes see but do not perceive and appreciate.

Your lyrics and Robert's photographs are always a treat!

The picture compliments this piece very well. We need to not only take the time to see the beauty of nature around us, but to take part in nature's survivial too. Your pen flowed very well here, Karen. Thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your sister in nature, Barbie

Thank you for letting us sit quietly beside you, drinking in beauty and thrilling to our natural environment. . .in which we are, after all, inextricably entwined. I never think of animals as "lower,"
or of trees and rivers and pastures as separate. All flow together, don't we? Thank you for the reminder! 'Pea' <3
