I leave you with this piece for your enjoyment. I will be away until Sunday night, as I will be at Texas Motor Speedway another of my favorite watering holes. I will get caught up with all my reading upon my return.....

 Lonely road........

Took a ride today down a long lonely road,
wanted to see where on earth it would lead.
Trees lined each side and reached across,
down on the ground, new growth from seed.

Kept the windows open, no air conditioning today,
felt the warmth of a cool, crisp gentle breeze.
Clouds were hovering overhead to protect
the sun,
then drove off the concrete onto dirt
with ease.

Better drive slower and be more alert,
never know what might be trying to cross
this road.
Beautiful flowers swaying, an assortment
of color,
an intricately woven fabric in a magical code.

In the distance, there are rows of bushes
in red,
all stretching upward as if reaching for
the sky.
Yet what to my wondering eyes do I see,
wonderful hummingbirds so young and spry.

The tiniest of the tiny, the smallest of
the small,
where have they all come from and I must
wonder why.
In all his grace and wisdom, God sent us the
hummingbird,
rarely to be seen and as a species they remain
very shy.

Bird feeders are everywhere strategically
placed,
in this wide-open field of grass, dirt
and rocks.
Happy to have driven down this long
lonely road,
it is not lonely after all and goes on
for blocks.

Though there were many hummingbirds
flying about,
all were frightened and one by one
flew away.
Upon one of the feeders was this tiny
solitary bird,
who continued to eat and was not afraid
to stay.

Taking picture after picture of this one
single hummingbird,
kept my distance, sat still and quiet on
the ground.
Observing in amazement at God's crafty
handiwork,
at the gift of life he gives to us which is
all around.

Nature, the super store for poetic inspiration. Hummingbirds hold a special fascination for me. A frail, highly specialized creature of mythical proportion. Nature's hovercraft, a giant bee with feathers. You relate with the spirit of back road, out of the way places with poetic liscense that says, look beyond the ho hum to experience anew. Peace be with you. Jon Michael Willey

An enchanting poem. Hummingbirds are so delicate-looking. I've had some show interest in my wooden wind chime. I love lonely roads like this. I travel one on the way home and I see wild turkeys, deer...love that feeling.

ooh naturale. I watch the birds be it a Kingfisher or a crow, or the nutty woodpigeons, and they can inspire you or make you laugh. Put some nuts in a dish, 5 woody come for them and whilst they fight over them, little blue tits run of with the lot..lol I love nature, it's funnier than any film....

I enjoyed this Karen, never know
where the road leads. Everytime we
stay at a cabin in the mountains
we watch the hummingbirds and you
know there not afraid there. Strange
but true...but who knows for sure ;)

Not a lonely road, but one filled with beauty and peace. Sometimes, that's exactly what we need - to be alone with God's beauty surrounding us and making us remember what life is all about.

I had lunch at a mountain restaurant in July - bird feeders lined the patio, and hummingbirds everywhere. What a treat.

Enjoy the racing.

Karen,
For three summers I had a family of humming birds eating from my bird feeder that looks just like the one you have in your picture. They returned for three summers a mother/father and two babies..They would come and fly right over my head and feed and I would just watch them in amazement..They certainly are creatures from Heaven.
Peace, Love, and Light,
