       No place to feel free.....

Time to get away, take some time out,
traveling far, traveling wide.
Yet, it does not seem to matter where,
there is no place to feel free inside.

No place to feel free.....

High into the majestic mountains,
inhaling the fragrance of flowers and trees.
Little brown bag with sunflower seeds,
leaving a trail for birds and bees.

No place to feel free.....

Setting up a tent with hanging lanterns,
gathering wood, twigs for a crackling fire.
Assorted wrapped cheese, crackers and chips,
water, juice, soon the body begins to tire.

No place to feel free.....

Early morning, faint sounds in the distance,
as deer huddle and squirrels prance.
Birds of all color hover high on tree branches,
while rabbit's scurry performing an ancient dance.

No place to feel free.....

Small crystal raindrops decorate the tent,
in a multitude of designs slowly coming down.
Multi-color robust leaves of green shades,
plush soft soil in shades of black and brown.

No place to feel free.....

Still longing for a place to feel free inside,
perhaps walking on rocks by the seashore.
Standing as one, on the edge of eternity,
listening to seagulls, begging for so much more.

No place to feel free.....

Inhaling the rejuvenating fresh salty air,
listening to the ocean crawl and greet the sand.
As the ocean delicately soothes body and soul,
it somehow extends a magic helping hand.

No place to feel free.....

Relaxing, dreaming in a comfortable hammock,
the sprinkler watering everything in sight.
A variety of birds gathering to drink and bathe,
as the sun drifts west taking with it all-light.

No place to feel free.....

Guess this means time to get indoors,
before the mosquitoes have a chance to dine.
Spending the evening thinking about the day,
and maybe even a glass or two of fine wine.

No place to feel free.....

Oh how I can relate to this. And I wonder what it is that prevents your inner freedom.

Sometimes there is no 'place' for us to go to feel free when we are in pain or troubled; it is within ourselves...somewhere....but it sure does take time to find. Beautiful write Karen! ~Hugs, Elizabeth

Excellent imagery and visuals in this poem. You took me to those places. What a nice way to spend some time and get smoe R&R.
I think feeling free can be a state of mind and if ones goes to that place and lingers a while , it can make the day a little brighter....M ( Glad you got away from the misquitoes tho )

This was a difficult poem for me to read, from personal 'stuff' that is going on. "No place to be free ..." speaks to me in so many ways. Still ... I focus on the beauty around me - and your imagery brings a lift to my spirit. Thank you.

God bless you,
Kathy

"I WILL KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE...WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON ME"...'FREEDOM'...NOT A PLACE OR A TIME, BUT A STATE OF BEING...BUT STILL WE SEARCH FOR FREEDOM IN EVERY OTHER WAY. A WELL DONE WORK FROM A SO TRUE, BUT SAD, PERSPECTIVE. THANKS FOR SHARING AND BLESSINGS,

Beautiful setting as is ever in your writing, Karen, and with such elegant, relevant detail; the last and only freedom we truly have is inside our heads...and pray 'they' never find a way to take that from us.

This is such an honest and searching voice, Karen. You have included so many idylls and beautiful observations that it makes your haunting refrain even more starkly contrasted as we travel through the poem. And we still are lacking a conclusion by the end - highlighting indeed that freedom is an inner state of being rather than an external condition or circumstance. Very profound and provocative yet delicate work. Kate xx

What a lovely poem to heed. Pain rings sharply in this voice, as she searches for that rare gift of true serenity. Oh, I hope she finds it!

I can relate very closely to what you have expressed within your verses here, Karen. Your poem reminds me of one that I have posted here at AD entitled, "No Place To Stop." Thank you for sharing your experiences. Love and best wishes,

Inwardly we are never free though outwardly the world looks like the Garden of Eden as you have painted it in this marvelous poetic verse. When we bring God into the equation we will have a true picture and find the freedom we are searching for.
