        Plentiful Cornucopia.....

Early in the season, so dry and hot,
the commencement of cabin fever setting in.
Take pups out back with coffee in hand,
sit by the table while they dance and spin.

Look over at the garden, it requires weeding,
guess we will stay out longer than planned.
Gather the wagon, gloves, and tools,
again in the sun, face and arms are tanned.

Half hour goes by and pups are restless,
stop weeding the garden, bring them indoors.
Forget the coffee, need ice water, or juice,
back out to work, sweat seeping through pores.

Picked tomatoes, eggplant, and green bell peppers,
three watermelon, cantaloupe, working all day.
Six pears, two zucchini, and cut some parsley,
better get to work, no more time to play.

Pups and kitties observing closely,
through the window of the new storm door.
Days growing shorter, nights growing longer,
a souvenir that autumn will soon reach our shore.

Washing, slicing, dicing, canning, and freezing,
ripe, plentiful cornucopia enjoyable all winter long.
Leashes in hand, puppies anxiously waiting,
walking out the door humming a familiar song.

A long, slow, stroll down by the seashore,
listening to seagulls as they search for food.
The feel of wet sand, leaving prints in the sand,
cools the body and mind, now in a better mood.

Sound of the ocean streaming up on the shore,
as puppies frolic to the monotonous beats.
A steady stream of ripples, one at a time,
always keeping a pocket full of treats.

Chasing the water, then running away,
marking history by leaving puppy paw prints.
Yesterday's sandcastles in ravenous decay,
until next year when spring once again sprints.

Karen, halcyon days on your canvas of words. Soothing, truly a "Cornucopia" setting you advance to us from your garden. Tranquility must surely be the ink of your pen. Love it. May peace love and joy be with you my dear friend. Jon Michael

Weeds seem to be my most plentiful crop this hot, hot summer, too. But my little garden is still a most needed sanctuary for me. And I can't even imagine life without dogs and cats.

Can't wait for Autumn and hopefully I'll see a new Spring. I'm looking for a new pup to replace my loyal Mackey, A Boston Terrier is what I seek in my last years. Most of my foot prints have been left on the sands of time but maybe just maybe I'll stroll down to Jones Beach and leave some fresh ones for posterity. Loved your poem in its keen serenity and pleasant chores stored up as preserves with pups waiting to be adored and cuddled.

Miss my garden. The neighbors tree grew too high and the sunlight became shade, not to mention I planted an apple tree square in the middle. It grew too. Now all I get is apples. But that's OK. Patrick

Golly Karen, you set my mouth to watering describing your harvest. It was a lot of work, but then, good things are worth it. The puppies' reactions are cute. Our kitties do similar.

Great poem....I loved irt...
