Predators come to steal
my own flesh and blood,
I let myself get carried
with the flood.
A cloud of ink protects me
from their greed
and writes emotions, suffering
to satisfy the superficial world.
I made my choice
to stay my real self
and headed for the depths
to feel and slowly dance
to the ebb and flow
of the liquid crystal world.
Delicate,
the membranes of my arms -
love is what makes me soft,
considerate -.
I keep my eggs clean
in currents of water,
providing oxygen
for these pearls of life.
The refreshing flow
also washes away
my vanishing ego
as I slow down.
I stop feeding my body,
waiting like a shadow
for young lives to hatch
as I end mine.
My organism weakens,
pervaded by the intense joy
of a gift given,
watching a hundred tiny ones
move and find their way
in the infinity of the Ocean.
In the lonely landscape,
the meaning of my invertebrate life
becomes limpid,
while clouds cover my eyes
and my tentacles dance
like leaves in liquid wind.
There, at the bottom,
all is quiet
and greatness is accomplished
in forgotten depths.
No wonder you write so well -- you've got eight arms to tell your tales! An invertebrate with quite a backbone. --an octopus macropus working her final opus (pssst: FYI, your poem's the 4th listing under Octopus Macropus on the Google page!) Write on! --Charlie
