 I Feel

Filigree bodies

I come

To Listen to the complaint

Of life above the leaves

Bees and changing colors

Living bronze

       That Fascinates to be

 To propagate

             And I find

The place where she wrote sonnets

In a dress of countryside prints

Feathery butterflies

In spring

Appropriately

Well-bred

Creature of wit

Cultivated

With her gold cross

Frail neck

And a smile

Gentle

Just spiky enough

To keep them interested but

Gentle

Educated hunters

beg to conquer

Reproduction oriented

On hills for gentlemen

On hidden testosterone

With their charming manners

Centuries change

And I lie here

Our sensitive antennae

Meet...

Lilly Beetles and May Bugs

Soldier beetles with tough shields

On the grass

The battlefield

Where I looked past

Their shining elytra

To see real wings

            And I found

   "No, no, not interested"

      The epitome of a lie.

Axilea: here's an oldie of a movie for you to rent--"Summer Magic"--there's a fabulous song in it called "The Ugly Bug Ball"--charming! And this poem reminds me of it. This is buzzing and fluttering with excitement and flirtations. I'm fascinated by these lines: "And I lie here Our sensitive antennae Meet..." and then, once you see their real wings, "No, no, not interested"

That is soooo life! Don't some folks get all gussied up to meet people-make friends-have relationships--but heaven forbid others see who they really are! Shy away! Run! They see you! --Tragic life for a simple ladybug. So, she goes home, polishes up her pretty spots, waxes her antenae, and out she goes again... --Charlie

Ethereal, surreal, great metaphor. Liz

Like the shadowing through a lacy doily, the beauty of this write resides in what is inferred and suggested, underpinning the airy filigree wings of words selected to delicately cast this scenescape. As a Brit, this is suggestive to me of Tudor times and heavy with the scent of iconic religious overtones and its shades of surreality. I love how the insects, by their very names, take on this kind of significance. Great closure, amply borne out by the quality of the body of the poem. TY Kate xx

Axilea,

Can reality be hidden so well that we are never meant to see just what is real? Your metaphors are outstanding. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

Everything that flies in Filigree depends on the condition to survive, both human and insect...metaphors float as gentle as the ornamental wings of a butterfly...this poetry is compensation for what didn't happen, Axilea...

Sage
