Brilliant flashes of light
Punch the ebon darkness
As heavy drops of cold, cold rain
Patter atop our new tin roof;
Seconds later,
Thunder cracks and rumbles,
Vibrating the contents
Of the china cabinet
And sending the cats
Scurrying for cover
While my own heart jumps
And races in response.
This year
Spring is announcing its arrival
With all the power and drama
Of an awakening goddess.
My beloved daffodils came early
And have been slow to shed
Their sunny blooms
Despite the cold
And occasional snow;
Now they are accompanied
By blooming trees
And shrubs,
And dandelion blossoms,
While tonight,
The glorious symphonic soundtrack
Of Nature being reborn
Stirs my winter-weary spirit
With elemental joy.
Captivating poem which I can easily relate too. My little garden is showing some life that is a harbinger that Winter's chill will soon be a memory. Loved the poem.
