Looking up
I take a break
By looking out
My open window;
I see there
A hummingbird,
Iridescent in
The summer sun,
Flitting around
The brilliant blossoms
Of a leafy bush;
Nearby
Upon the lawn,
A young rabbit sits
Frozen, its
Nose a'twitch as it
Watches my Siamese cat
Watching back from
The window sill,
Her tail also twitching
With excitement.
The errant breeze
Wafting through
The screen brings
The herbal green scent
Of fresh mown grass,
While on the same wind
From the woods nearby
Comes the call
Of a patient hawk
Looking for
An unwary meal.
Returning my attention
To the task at hand
I am at peace,
My fingers and mind
Contentedly creating
A world that exists only
In my imagination,
And the imagination
Of my reader.
Isn't it amazing, not necessarily what we see, but what we feel, in what lies within and beyond a window. Lovely. At peace indeed, the writer and reader as one.
