Look at the distant mountains

All touched with the hand of gold

It’s natures flash of beauty

before the land turns cold.


The sun on the shimmering water

The geese in the clear blue sky

I know it all comes from heaven

and I’ll never be asking why?


The woods with the men in cami’s

all searching for wild prey

Boots treading on crackling leaves

turkey’s for Thanksgiving day.


Smoke rises from tall grey chimneys

the scent to my senses a treat

The evenings grow shorter and colder

I watch from a comfortable seat.


Wrapped in a fleecy blanket

here by the fireside

Watching the leaves of summer

For the colors mean they have died
