A little early, but what the hey. I writes 'em as I gets 'em. :)

The wind blows hot.  Leaves off trees, except
a few hangers-on.  Bet--one will still
be there when Spring comes, next week.  Winter
doesn't last long, here.  All is calm, all
is brown: even the grass has turned brown.
The sky cardboarded with patterned
clouds.  Houses constructed of faded
color.  Wrapping not so pretty, now,
and yet we go on, hoping.  And praying
that we won't disappoint the children.
We make do with what little we have...
Christmas trees glow the Season from the
windows cheery with hope.  Let it snow:
something Yankees talk about or seen
in history books.  Anything that
is below eighty/ninety degrees
would freeze my...only time it looks like
Christmas is at night, when homes reflect
their lights into my eyes.  And that's when
I remember what it was like to
be young and believe in Santa Claus
and in magic.  Why was I in such
a hurry to grow up to forget?

It's not always totally brown in Texas; my water bill tells me it's gonna be green til we get our freeze :) Oh by the way, have you ever gone swimming on Christmas! I know people in other countries might; but why here in Texas? :) Cute

Ah, Karla, Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year. How well I remember my childhood Christmases. How I love the pretty colored lights and decorations; the smell of rum-laced Christmas cake baking in the oven; the busyness of cleaning the house and making everything shiny and bright; the Christmas carols blaring from the record player...oh, yes, Christmas...Karla, you've stirred awake the Christmas spirit within me. Thank you sweet lady. :) The child in me is still very much there!

God Bless

Doesn't appear you have forgot too well. North, south, east or west there is a Santa in every heart and hearth who believes in magic. You just keep writing them as you gets them Karla

A philosophical question you ask Karla in the last sentence. And one that will probably procure many answers depending on mood and circumstance.

A lovely tapestry you paint here.

Spot on. And bar hose pipes, all the grass was brown down there.
That said, Texas for some reason is still my fav place to have been to.. It has a unique life of its own..

That is why I sometimes wish I were still in Ohio at Christmas. Somehow the lack of snow or warmer temps doesn't make it seem Christmasy here. Very well done, humorous write; brava! Keep up the super writing, Karla, your writing is solid and sure!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin sister, Karen Lynn. :D

Oh, for some snow and cold weather at Christmas; that would be GREAT! :)
