Threw out me back.......ow. What undid it? Putting a garbage bag into an (empty) trash can. LOL

Winched tight as a cable, nerves
and muscles shout:  the guide wire
that was a spine has slackened,
reminding me the old back
ain't what she used to be.  Left
hobbling on the cane more than
usual:  a trusted friend.
Hell getting old.  New aches, meet
familiar pains: I am not
aging gracefully:  Golden
Years, my foot.  Feels more like the
Tin Man:  stiff.  Unyielding.  UN-
hinged:  Where is an oil can or
wizard when you need them most?

(c) 2007, Karla Dorman (1/26)

You don't complain Karla; you hold it well inside. Golden years do get better though more painful; it's part you'd rather not live but you wrote it gracefully.

I'm putting a special request for you to the Wizard.
Hold on a second...incoming message...The Wizard says paint your cane a bright yellow like the sun and somewhere, that you will see it...paint a bluebird.
Then you'll have a cane for support, sunshine and a Bluebird's song.
He said to tell you that was easy. <smile <

Love and His blessings.

Old age? Do you mean your back goes out more than you do? Karla, I do sympathize with the old back. Important thing to remember is, stifle the sneeze! I found out the hard way what happens when the sneeze escapes. You don't want to find out! In the mean time...take it easy...do back stretches, if the doctor advises.

God bless
Love and gentle hugs
Lena

Now that's the truth.
Got a giggle out of this, only because I know what you mean. This is a well constructed poem.

I agree Karla, where is that wizard that is supposed to make things better for us...I say we get together with all the others here at the den who have written about the aging process today, we travel that yellow brick road until we find that old wizard to help us through these so called golden years...I can see it now, you walking stiff and me fanning from the hot flashes what a pair...loved your write, made me forget the hot flashes for a little while, it's been an interesting day indeed.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

Oh, dear lady, how I do seem to be in absolute agreement with you on this cleverly written piece!
Remodeling my office, I lifted a can of joint compound...twisted the wrong way...and "tin-manned" for three days!
We 'aging ladies' must be more careful, right?

Haha, Karla!!! I can certainly relate, but I am blessed for the years I have been granted and with the beauty that I have seen in this world. I have nearly everything I have ever hoped for in life, so I have decided not to complain about the few aches and pains that are the sidekick to my longevity. I refer to them as "survival pains" and I try to embrace them by stepping to the window each morning and watching the glory of a sunrise. This also gives me a few minutes to catch my balance on my sore feet and get some of the stiffness out of my knees. I start at the bottom and work up. LOL!
Take care,
Sherry

I heard someone recently, who was retired, say that the Golden Years for him had turned out becoming the s#*% brown years. That stuck with me.

Years ago when I worked as a carpenter framing homes my back would occasionally rebel, it was horrid. At times I could only crawl around on my hands and knees. I can empathize with you dear Karla.

This too shall pass ...

Karla,

Sorry to hear you threw your back out; hope you feel better soon! Sometimes we do the strangest things to our bodies, and end up suffering as a result. Remember me picking up the gas can? Or the time when I went to put the lid on the back of the toilet? I still say someone shot me! LOL Very well done, Karla; you capture the drama of the moment perfectly and you made my back hurt with this one! *OW*

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin sister, Karen Lynn. :)

Karla, this is delightful, especially when it was written in such pain! I agree, it IS hell getting older, but when we poke a little fun at it, like taking a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down, aging isn't quite so bad any more. Well done and something special I can relate to.
Love,
CJ

lol I can sooooo relate to this! Lately I've felt like I'm a bit rusty too.
We must keep our humor, or our tears will surely lock us down!
