The billions they made was and "unexpected" bonus.
The Veterans will get a very very friendly shrug of their shoulders.

Yes, we the people of this fine land owe all of them a debt. Keep them in your hearts and minds all year long, not just for one day. Sadly it is written in the history of this country to down play all our troops when they are not needed. They are left ignored, shamed and lied to. Promises, promises and give them nothing. Our government does a fine job handing out lip service, but true gratitude is difficult to find. I salute each and every one....
Your sincerity is most rewarding to those who have not only given the ultimate sacrifice but to those who still suffer the ailments of injury and emotional turmoil that wars bring...
Is that asking too much??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blood-stirring write, Karla, that calls for an answer. The shame is that we are not pressing for justice each and every day, not just on Vets Day... except for those stalwarts whose voices in support are NEVER silent. We are free because of them, our veterans. We owe TEHM. We owe them all the benefits due--and then some. NOTHING is too good for them. Powerfully stated; this needs to be shouted from the rooftops! I don't know what promises they were given, but it matter not, you are correct that vetrans are most often given the short stick and not treated with the respect they deserve . . . Thank you for the poem . . .
They should be treated the way our politicians are treated. A lifelong pension, the best health care, and all the respect we can give them. Why have we allowed our politicians to give THEMSELVES these things that they don't deserve and NOT give them to our vets, who DO deserve? Fine job Karla. *Glen*
Shame on Us All, and Shame on Our Leaders, Who Always Begrudge Allocating Our Valiant Veterans Sufficient Funds For Their Health, Housing, and Disability Needs When They Return Home.
Those who speak out against our fight for freedom and still live, work and play here; who still have their freedom of speech are hypocrits for had they been in the countries they speak for, they wouldn't have the right to say a word.
Honor is a word rich in American history. Valor, bravery and freedon go hand in hand in the allegiance all fighting men and women take. I wish we Americans could take our oaths more often than a thought.
