May you all have a wonderful, safe Fourth of July.

... the sun sizzles in the sky above,
adding more red to the white and blue
of patriotism. The barest
hint of a breeze lifts the colors high;
the honor guard holding them will not
let them fall. Children and their parents
hello their neighbors across the way.
Four military jets from the base
north of here shake the ground with thunder's
roar; sirens cut through it, announcing
the start of the parade. The bands and
floats begin their march down Johnson Street:
this, how we start the Fourth of July
where I live, in Burleson, Texas.
Won't be until later on in the
evening when we'll end things with a bang. :)
My hubby and I had errands to run on the 4th...I was a little surprised and quite pleased when we found 90% of the businesses we needed to go to, closed...for the 4th... It helped me remember just why we celebrate this day.

A dramatic start to the celebration. Towns close to me tend to do the fireworks on the 3rd. I don't get it. I think they're missing the point. Great poem.

Happy 4th of July to you. I know my hubby Tom always went to his hometown parade and I expressed it in word in my Patriotic poem to Tom on my den. He loved the fire engines, the bands, the music, and atmosphere of the red white and blue. Thanks for posting this patriotic poem. Really good and suits the day.***********
Wow, what imagery!! I could see and hear the parade coming down Johnson Street!! EXCELLENT poem that truly evokes excitement as the parade gets ready to commence! Ain't nothin' like a good ol' fashioned parade to get the juices pumpin'; the juices only get primed for the big fireworks show later in the evening, coupled with some great music!! Very well penned; brava!

Happy fourth, Karla! I'm celebrating in Arizona and those people here know all about the big bang!
Thanks to all service men and women, without you, this wouldn't be happening!
