for all. not just us. with
the economy, worries are on
bills, keeping a roof overhead, not
presents, certainly not charitable organi
zations. they're going to have to
fend for themselves this year because
the money isn't there. food banks are finding
their shelves withdrawn; churches are having to turn
families away. shopping means going to the
store and dreaming of what we'd like. just about
everyone is affected. may this be the year we find the
true meaning of Christmas and the miracles it can bring. may
one or two of
them find their
way to us ......
AMEN! -- let us hope that many who have never thought of Christmas as anything other than the holiday of presents -- perhaps will now learn it is the celebration of the "Greatest Gift" -- thanks for sharing what will be the best perspective we all have shared with us for Christmas -- peace and love to you my friend -- JMW
Your poem, tree strikes a chord. What many live with daily, year after year has now been affecting the masses. What came to mind was the story of "The Little Match Girl", only in reality I lived. May God look kindly and compassionately upon all...
There's a worldwide economic crisis out there now. No one has much money to spend for this Christmas. My parents stocks and mutual funds that was left with us have been suffering as well. Luckily for me, as I know where to invest my own funds to generate guaranteed income. If one is not to greedy, rewards are bound to happened. Perhaps not instant success, but rather take it at a slower pace than to go fast and crash with failure.
This time is to teach people not to be greedy. I have a girlfriend who cashed out all her RRSP, took a year of leave without pay to play in the stock market. She often boasts to me about how much money she was making, WITHOUT THE MONEY BEING IN HER HAND FOR REAL!!! Those were just numbers she was counting!!!
Anyway...it is not just happening to you, it's happening world-wide, and I hope things will eventually get better soon for everyone.

Thought provoking poem. It reminded me of "Little Women" and "Les Miserables" but also of the First Christmas and the Essence of why we have it at all. Christ was King of Kings, Lord of Lords, but He was born in a manger....because "there was no room for them at the inn."

I remeber when I was a wee lad
In those days All I wanted was a Set of Hop A Long cassidy
"Twin Holstered Guns....about $5.00"
Now we have spoiled our kids and grand kids
where we think we have to spen hundreds of dollars on each
equally...............
Sure we are going to be tightening our belts and wallets too
Forget about monitary donations.....to certain Organizations

Yes, the world is changing at an accelerated rate, and there are millions being affected negatively.
Goodness my son Garrett was laid off, our daughter is down to one day a week of work. In fact, we went into Vons to shop a couple weeks ago and half the shelves were empty. How can that be in America? They are giving shoppers gas allowances now, ten dollars per hundred dollars that you spend to keep you shopping there. Stay prayful and focused on Him.

We have to think of the true meaning of Christmas, I remember one year we had ahomemade Christmas, nothing was purchased, everything was hand made even the decorations on the tree. It was the very best Christmas ever. Thank you for sharing Karla as so many are feeling the stress.
This is a very clever, well-played poem, Karla. It reminds me of some friends in Pennsylvania who tell me that this year, except for the children, the people in the family will each get an envelope telling what charity the giver gave the money to that would have ordinarily gone for their present. They said a favorite is the Salvation Army because of their past experiences in seeing that organization give a high percentage of its receipts for the good of people...Jerry

I really like the shape of this poem, Karla, and the message. It is very well said and heartfelt.
For the past few decades, Christmas has been about debauchery. What more do people really need at Christmas than to gather as family and friends under love? No present could possible convey that properly.

less time spent shopping more time to spend Love differently, 'Hard Times', a great book by Dickens, much about education, that it is important to see education (from the root meaning, in latin) as the drawing out of qualities and abilities, and what is known inside, rather than the idea of education only being teachers 'filling empty vessels full of facts' - Watching A Christmas Carol on the telly after cooking a bring-an-ingredient delicious meal with friends, funny little carefully chosen/made pressies, visitors, a fire, warm memories there on what is important to me - lovely, cheers Karla :))

It's been pretty sparse for several Christmas's to me, so this one doesn't seem too much different....in fact...I plan on putting up a tree this year...first time in awhile! Who cares if nothing under it...guess I'm just at that stage where just seeing my kids and g-kids healthy and with a roof is a blessing to me... Yes Christmas will be short for many this year, but we have already received the ultimate Gift. 2000 years ago God gave us his only Son and by doing so we we now have eternal life. Great write Karla and so true. May God riches blessings rest upon all of us this year as we once again find the true meaning of Christmas. Thank you so much for sharing this great write. I focus on Jesus and the meaning of Christmas, and He will take care of the rest. Its hard looking in your grandchildren's eyes and knowing you can get them very little for Christmas. A child don't understand the concept of money. How true your words are when you said shopping is going into a store and DREAMING what you'd like. Yes, so many are affected, not only us. I pray for us all.
