A butterfly pinned center stage
by lights and laughter; wings
tattered by life's cruelties. And
yet, there she was, determined
to fly above it all. And she did,
teaching all who heard that voice
not to judge: thank you, Susan,
for touching our soul with hope,
and Grace: you are beautiful ...
a fitting tribute to Susan, Karla -- love the rainbow and your opening line, "A butterfly pinned to center stage by lights and laughter, wings tattered by life's cruelties" -- so symbolic of each man's struggle to be recognized for what he his, not by his outward appearances -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael
Love the metaphor here, Karla! I've known that feeling first time on stage. This one will be saved and pressed between the memory pages--but not the butterfly, she will fly free. So lovely, K. Guess who else is beautiful? Thank you...Lin
She is absolutely incredible, and I hope she wins it all! She deserves to! What a phenominal talent she is; I just adore her! (And you!) Beautiful tribute to a special talent the world has come to love and admire; she will open eyes in ways that were once thought impossible! She has a powerful lesson to teach! Good on her!

your poem pays homage to one of the great formerly unknowns that was bless with a gift from God and who used it well... much the same as your poetry is used to bring light to dark eyes. Great piece Karla.
Blessings, Kathy
Her story is an exceptional one. I am so pleased to hear that she has said there will be no extreme makeovers because she wanted to remain real... I applaud that! Her personality and spunk shine through her face and eyes. She was beautiful before she started singing...someone I can easily imagine being everyone's friend.

Great writing sweet lady..enjoyed very much..thank you...Hugsss
In one magnificent fell swoop, God shamed nearly everyone in that auditorium. I took note that early in her introduction and behind the judges, there was a lady tittering to her friend next to her, eyes rolling back in mocking gesture, but after Susan finished her song and the cameras panned back to the judges, her seat was empty. I suspect she that she was in the bathroom crying over her shameful act in from of the camera. How many people mocked her in safety from their sofas? Great poem. hugs, J'nia
