Dream Scene (e) ... The Elevator Inside

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In my dream I was inside a large elevator
So large at least a hundred people were inside
Some were laughing
Some spoke languages I never heard
Everyone seemed so full of energy
I almost forgot we were heading upward
To the pinnacle of an unknown destination
I could see an infinity sign on the top of console
And there was a very strange elevator man
Commanding the controls
Yet the elevator always remained in motion
Had not stopped once
He had a sense of complacency to him
And his eyes were so intense
I became transfixed by his probing expression
He looked over to me
And said “like being uplifted?”
At first I couldn’t speak
A very frustrating state to find oneself in
So I thought my answer
And looked into his eyes
And without words gave him my reply
He then smiled and said
“Always go to the top
And never waver from knowing
You’ll never reach your zenith”
Then the elevator rapidly plunged
Into becoming awake
And never waver from knowing
It's the journey, not the destination. Put your heart and soul into right now(and yes avoid foods starting with 'P' before you sleep).
being aware of levels within a dream is quite an interesting experience and I suspect a memory of where you have been while you have been sleeping. Good advice you were given :-) Thanks for sharing.
Am I losing days? I checked and had not reviewed this. I could've sworn I was already here. Stop speaking to me in my sleep, Ace.
What Carole said. ;-) You're always da bomb.
I have a hunch that if we were to catch a glimpse of the ultimate, something of the dream and the desire to attain it would wither and die within us: perhaps the ultimate can therefore never be arrived at, or even imagined by the finite capacity of our minds - until it happens. Like others, usually my experience in dreams is that they end just before what I am anticipating eagerly is just about to happen - or, conversely, in such a way as to get me out of danger. Either way, it is like the ultimate HAS to remain a perpetual mystery to keep us living in pursuit of it. The picture of this particular dream also interests me in the sense that you show yourself as the only person who is cognisant of the movement upwards - like everyone else present is unaware of the journey's significance and process; interesting that it is therefore to you that the complacent "attendant" addresses his question, and maybe it was your answer to him that caused the dream to end so rather abruptly... I hope that doesn't mean he's telling you to take the stairs!! Could be a long haul... :))) Fascinating - and amazing what contributions we have all made: are there any answers, do you think?! Perhaps the lift getting stuck might prove interesting as each of the 100 enters into the journey's dynamic. Blast - another 100 lines!! TY Kate xx
Robert, oh the messages from within! This is a very important dream for you.
For you to forget to reach, is not the person you really are. Don't stop looking just because you face a wall..
See anyway.
I hate that dream!!!
I hold on to my butt every time, and wonder what it means when I wake in a blithering state of mind.
Excellently penned Rob, though it gave me the heebeegeebee's :):)
Our dreams are the base of our existance and I believe we also have the ability to execute what we often dream. You Robert in your work that I have read will always strive for the zenith and that is the magic is the striving not the actual reaching for.
Dear Jude,
It's not about speaking out aloud ! the responses, if well thought, are clearly heard and listen well... to hear all :)
What is so weird to me about elevator dreams is that they keep turning over and I am hanging on to the bars and I have never figured that out. But I suppose it means that things in my life are being turned upside down. Interesting poem here and I am glad to see that I am not the only one to have dreams about elevators.
The joy of dedication to literary craftsmanship, we are often told, is in the journey toward personal excellence; and apparently for you, a significant part of the journey itself is through the dream. Nice flight in spirit and in words.
Wow, keep going up... to a better place, anticipating the doors that will eventually open, yet a whole elevator treating it like the mundane... some strive and thrive, while others just hope to survive...
I am enjoying the replaying of your dreams. This one makes me want to analize it, although I am not good at that. So, I'll just read it over and over and enjoy your ability to remember (or create) dreams.
An interesting dream and an interesting ending, Robert. I was hoping for the opening of the doors into a place something like Oz or an enchanted forest. Something of great wonderment. I am always frustrated by dreams that end before the finale. I hope you get back to this one and I hope you will see all your wishes unfold before you as the doors open. In this case, though, it would seem it was far more about the ride than the destination. Captivating write!
Take care,
Sherry
