Cheating time

Ma says if I had been born two hours earlier,

it would have been such an easy chore,

she knew it was time…

I was knocking on that door.

She said, it woulda been easier,

giving birth,

losing her expanded girth,

yet on that rainy night I came squawking,

yelling and making an awful scene…

but for cheating time,

there would have been a price to pay,

you see, to be born during leap year,

today, I’d only be sixteen.

The birth certificate says born, 1 March, 1944, 1:35am
