Thank God For Autumn

Autumn has arrived, a spectacular scene
Rainbows of leaves; yellow, rose, and green
All year we knew this change would come
Don’t blink, for in a week it’s done
A fireworks display in the light of day
Only an empty gas tank would keep us away
So we fill the car and toss TP in the glove
And drive to that canyon I know and love

We run to the mountains every day it seems
Laughing and giggling and sharing our dreams
It seems like the best reason not to work
And the smiles on our faces is one more perk
With ooo’s and aah’s around every turn
What’s for lunch is not a great concern
Just one camera simply isn’t enough
Stop, click, click, my turn, back up!

Posted warnings of bears and cougars, too
Thank goodness I didn’t put on perfume
An eagle’s nest, coyotes, and squirrels
A few of the treasures God unfurls
Light begins to dim and stomachs growl
The air gets crisp and we throw in the towel
Praying the colors stay just one more day
Heading back to town, thanking God for today
