My Bird Friend

I woke up this morning
and looked out my window.
and without warning,
I saw a red bird sitting on my back fence.
As I stared at him, I felt my world was less tense.
I was surprised to see him so early in the year.
Hopefully he was telling me there is nothing to fear,
and that God’s love is always near.
He isn’t a stranger,
and he feels he’s in no danger
while he sits there watching me.
It is a wonderful connection with one of God’s creatures,
as anyone could surely see.
It was the first time I had seen him this year,
and it was such a nice feeling, it filled me with cheer.
He was sitting there in the sunshine, calm and cool,
waiting for summer, and me to swim in the pool.
He is a friend that comes every year and talks to me.
As I relax in the water, he perches nearby
where he knows I can see.
His bright red feathers are beautiful as can be,
as he sits on the fence and visits with me.
He doesn’t stay long,
but he sings me a song, and then he moves on.
I don’t know what he is trying to say,
when he stops by to talk to me every day.
I know he is special in some sort of way.
I am glad he was sent,
and will continue to stay.
