I used to be able to look down upon this creek from my house when I was little. It holds special memories for me.
My Creek
I have never seen such a lovely sight
as the creek that is flowing with speedy delight.
When I look out my window and down below,
the glistening beauty of it is all a glow.
It flows over the rocks and makes pretty white peaks.
The awesome beauty I always will seek.
As it rolls with rapid grace all the way down.
The rustling water makes a wonderful sound.
It comes down out of the mountains
from a spring I suppose,
as the water flows by, its beauty does grow.
This beautiful memory I held over the years,
was something from my childhood
that I hold very dear.
It is only a memory now in my mind,
because I went back to see it one more time.
To my shock and much unease,
they had let my creek stop flowing,
and be overgrown with weeds and trees.
When I saw the sight I almost cried,
because when I was young
I looked at my creek with love of nature
and with much pride.
I still can’t believe,
they would let it disappear.
So I can no longer see it, or no longer hear.
It breaks my heart to know,
people who care so little about letting
such beautiful things of nature
no longer be here.
Man's systems are in disharmony with his surroundings and the result is awful as you have so well expressed here, Judith. Thank you. Love and peace to you. Regis
I feel this poem, nature provides most of my inspiration. Nicely written. ~Z~

I can sympatize with you wholeheartedly. I, too, grew up near a nice little creek with a wooden bridge over it. It is gone also. Soon will we all. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Judith,
I am sorry for your loss. You need time to grieve,
similiar to a death in the family. It is atrocious what
the people have done to nature these days! I really like
your poems. We are similiar in a way.
Love ya! Becca
Wonderful childhood memory, Judith, of a magnificent slice of nature. And I can relate to your pain of its loss. I posted a similar post about one of my favorite childhood haunts - The Old Fishin Hole.
Explore the mystery of how nature makes unexpected gifts of creative wonders to an unsuspecting caregiver one late night and early morning in southeastern Georgia, USA.
