What is this, dear boy?
A love that love itself doth desire?
Do you love the impish creature
So small and burning with such fire?

Do her eyes pull you from your roaming seas,
Entrance you from all promises made?
Do you forget she is of another world
And take comfort in her shade?

Do you reach to touch a single strand
Of her hair as she dances away?
Gliding off into the night
Do you long to make her stay?

What is this, dear boy?
A child did steal your heart?
Do you see that with her youthful lover,
With Ambition she will soon depart?

Do you catch her scent as she,
With a teasing smile, passes you by?
Do you watch her go, wishing you could hold that spirit,
Light as the morning sky?

What, dear boy?
Will she turn her glowing face
And see a tear upon that gentle cheek,
Sliding earthward with the saddest trace?

Will her eyes, as knowing as the night,
Draw you into her deep dispair,
Will she share your pain with parted pink lips
And quietly run her fingers through your hair?

And if she gave in to her heart's wild desires
And chose to die a death of rebirth in your embrace
Would you love her forever in her innocence
With a touch no other could replace?

What is this, dear boy?
Your gentle hands reaching for me?
If I breathe the slightest touch of your fingertips
No life nor death could make me set this love free.

Fine until the last line, a total cliche. But interesting as always, as always.

This reminds me of Joan Baez or Carly Simon. (I am getting old, lol) As always, you're very good and enlightening. JC xoxoxo
