A variation from
TRAILS TO ETERNITY

An uncle of mine had a plan,
Some birds he wanted to feed for free;
As a sign that they were welcome,
He placed a feeder up high you see.

Within a remarkably short time,
They came from just about everywhere;
They built their nests in his patio,
Sam was very glad to have them there.

His home that he fought so hard to build,
Was becoming a great menagerie;
They started telling their friends to come,
To this place where so much was for free.

Soon his home became a filthy place,
It was hard for Sam to go outdoors;
Their messes they left everywhere,
They even built their nests on the floors.

Then one day they became violent,
And began to demand even more;
They claimed the patio was their own,
They even started a backyard war.

When he went out into his back yard,
They dove at him and clawed at his skin;
Screeching, “This land now belongs to us,”
With so many there Sam couldn’t win.

Then one day he had another thought,
He simply took the free food away;
Soon the birds went back where they came from;
Again in his back yard Sam could play.

Does this sound a bit too familiar?
Yes, our government gives out free food;
And rightfully so, to those that need,
But the illegal's are a different brood.

They demand free housing, medical care,
And then refuse to work for a living;
Why should they when they can live for free?
And to them all our taxes we’re giving.

Is your child’s class behind other schools,
Because so many can’t speak our language?
“Simply press one to hear this in English,”
Food now comes in a bilingual package.

Yes, many of them are waving the flag,
Too bad it’s not the Red, White and Blue;
“What’s that you say, I’m not politically correct
You’re damned right and what I say is true .”

It is time to take down the feeder,
But keep the plan where all can have more;
The land of opportunity for all,
As long as they work as our fathers before.

I AM AN AMERICAN!

Written while I was thinking about what the Statue of Liberty really meant to our immigrant ancestors. I do know this; it meant swearing total and unequivocal allegiance to one country; the country of their choice. If one chooses to be an American, then give it 100% folks. Let’s all drop the African, Irish, German and all the other ancestry from our nationalities. Our nationality is AMERICAN. Red, yellow, black, white or whatever; it doesn’t matter. Above all else we are Americans and are all red, white and blue. Be proud to say it.

If we go to another country, we're expected to abide and respect them, if they want to come here respect us, speak our launguage and work for what you want, need and require. It isn't given to us. Thank you Paul for sharing.

Right Paul, they should study and learn the English language as a prerequisite to citizenship, for whoever heard of an American citizen who cannot speak the American language- English? Allegiance means loyalty and working for the good of the country to which one pledges it, so let them work!

Paul,

Karen's and my grampa came from Croatia; his folks put him on the boat when he was 14, to escape WWI and to have a better life. In order for him to get a job, in order for him to become a citizen, he had to learn the law of the land and know English. They didn't make it easy for him, by having the forms in half English/half Croatian - but my goodness, he did it. Can remember asking him how you said something in Croatian, and he'd turn red with anger: I live in America, I. Speak. English!! You said it spot on in these lines, my friend. Helping those who served, who want to give something back one thing, to just take advantage of the system and take benefits away from American citizens is just WRONG.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
