This is a true story. In the photo, is a picture of me standing next to this monster, I'm six feet tall. Since the photo was taken, it's grown even more.

Poem Artwork

Looking around the gardening section of our local floral shop, I saw the cutest little plant,  just aching to be bought.

It was a cute little cactus in a pretty painted bowl, a tag hung down from the plant, saying it needed plenty of sun and grew pretty fast.

I took it home with me, put it my window sill, it was precious as could be.    And as the tag said, it had grown so fast, it was much too
big for the bowl.   I took it outside thinking it would be happier there…if I had only known.

The cactus grew taller every day; it even grew new arms; that was fine with me; that was part of its charm.  Each day, it seemed came a new sprout, and this you will not believe.  Out of that cute little cactus in a bowl, the amount of arms is now fourteen!

Though it was once a tiny thing, it actually grew to the sky.  It surpassed the tree in the ground, and is now larger than the telephone poles, what can I say, but “Wow!”

It sways with the wind but never falls down; the thing has a mind of its own.  The scariest thing about this mutant plant is it isn’t even full grown!

I wouldn’t mind so much if it was a pretty thing, but the arms are bent and twisted; it’s a real monstrosity!

You must think, what a fanciful tale, a plant growing up to the sky.
But my friends, if you are around, and don’t live too far, I would more than gladly show you my backyard.

Sounds exciting; glad you put it aways from the house. What cactus variety is it?
Your poem really is poetry; I got the meter and rhymes here and there. You have a way of putting your poetry in story form and paragraphs but it often is still poetry, yet some might not notice that given its prose style...

Mary doesn't your plant put you in mind of Jack and the Beanstalk? They also had a play a few years ago entilted ' Little Shop of Horrors' It was funny about how huge this plant got and its diet was people. If it makes you feel errie you have your answer, if it makes you feel happy bathe in your joy. A very interesting write and thank you for the comments and review. Peace!!!

The cactus plant can grow flowers too. I love cactus plant, for they looked so sturdy. Perhaps the cactus is eating some giant plant food. Heeeheee!!!

Mary and the beanstalk! Love this, Mary, and even it's a monstrosity as you say you'll love it anyway.
