You’ve heard this story many times, by now
its getting a bit boring. But before you go
to the next write, please give this a chance.
For although the beginning is so familiar, the
middle certainly is not.
The world exploded with cheers as history
was made. For the first time in our country
a black man took the White House on that
fateful day.
We were so proud, we’d come so far, he’d
made history’s mark ...but he didn’t get their
alone.
Great men before this had fought and died for this
day. And in this fateful moment, tears of joy cry from
their graves.
But there were others, people you won’t find in history
books, you won’t even know their names. Ones
that defied the status quo, and set out on their own.
Back in the 70s, young teens had in their minds,
respect other cultures, but stay with your own kind.
There were four rebellious teens who thought
this thinking cruel. For they were all different races
and cultures and had broken society’s rules.
The friends were black, white, brown, and yellow,
something unheard of in that day. Their bond
of friendship would never be broken by things that
people would say.
Others couldn’t understand it; how could they
do such a thing. For everyone knew what they
were doing was just plain wrong.
They laughed at them and pointed and stared.
What a bunch of freaks, breaking the natural
order of things, how could they even dare!
But after a while, they realized their taunting
and teasing only made the group strong. So
they had to think, could they have been wrong?
Time went by, the friends went their separate
ways, but 30 years by the miracle of television
they’d be together again.
They thought of the great men through history that
helped propel our new President to stand there,
wonderful men we’ve all heard of, they made it
true because they cared. But this tiny group of
special friends who were nobodies, no one would
ever remember their names; but because
they had rebelled against bigotry, in their own
miniscule way, did they somehow help give the
President his name?

Our hope is that the Mayans calender was out of whack, if not, on 2012 we will see the moon doing a touch down right on our kisser.
