Another year gone

Poem Artwork

Before I turn the page, the

One that says it’s done,

I look at December’s coffee stain,

Doodles on the pad, a picture of the sun

Strange numbers without names

Messages that mean nothing grace

the wrinkled page.

And over in the corner, an appointment

I had missed.  Stuck to the paper,

tiny notes remind me of this.

Tiny bits of our Christmas party

Some food spilled on the page

I’ll never forget that time together,

But oh, how much we ate!

Now we come down to the last block,

That says December 31st.  Depending

On how you make it, it could be the best

Or be the worst.

The last month is now ripped off, twelve

pages thrown away. January through

December, many memories were made.

So now a clean sheet of paper, a new month,

a new year.  A chance to make a new mess

or start anew and make it clear.

good one Mary, always as long as we're breathing to clean up our act, but some don't, hope your thanksgiving was fine, hugs

Excellent write Mary
yes true and the years as well are
passing just as fast as those pages being
ripped, where did all that time go?
there was a time when I always found myself looking up
to those giving gifts, I look down at those beautiful little
faces looking up at me, wondering what Grandpa got for them....
Love & Peace be with you

Love your last stanza, Mary - how so very true.

MARY - WELL SAID!

It reminds me of a poem I wrote years ago, entitled "Resolutions? NAH!"

Reflections on the Past may well give us Desire to make Resolutions for the Future.

I guess that it is the 'Optimism' within that Wants to Believe that Next Year will be Better?

At age 69, my 'take' is simpler - if my eyes open in the morning, I say a quick prayer -

"Thank You Lord, for Yet Another Beautiful, Wonderful Day!" Each day is now a New Adventure - How we React to Circumstances determines our Attitudes!

Tom.

What a reminder for us to sit back and think about the year that has passed. Yes a lot of it was trivial .... but I think you've done a good job a reminding us to think about what is important too!

Except for being a month too early, this was an excellent poem, Mary. You brought into play the daily things we often don't see or dismiss as unimportant. Not you. good.

Mary,
"A chance to make a new mess.." I know what you mean. You've written this well, it rings true and real...and the years roll by.
