Work in the City by David Knight

Enthusiasm on the wane
Leaving the crowded train
Switch swiftly to the ‘Drain’
Heading for Chancery Lane

High above a departing plane
Heading off to sunny Spain
Those aboard lost their chain
Their dragons temporarily slain

Over the pub towers a crane
Watching the builders strain
Their project to see is plain
A mighty office block – again

Traffic noise already a pain
Difficult now to use my brain
From the truth you refrain
As clients you entertain

Someone needs to explain
Is this to be my life of gain?
I’m still to ascertain
If so I think I’ll abstain

Note: The Drain is the nickname for the short underground line into the City of London.

Cut poem, but oh so true. Ya need to escape into the countr, feel the fresh breeze caressing your face, watch the sun set, walk through a field of wild flowers. (smile)
